Vietnam registered 12 domestically-transmitted COVID-19 cases from 6:00 am on Monday to 6:00 am on Tuesday, according to the Ministry of Health.

Eight of the patients were logged in northern Vinh Phuc Province Hanoi, two in Ha Nam, one in Da Nang, and one in Hanoi, the health ministry said in a statement.

The ministry reported 11 coronavirus cases imported from abroad in the same time span. They had been quarantined upon entry into Vietnam.

It announced 11 recoveries on Monday, taking the total to 2,650.

The government has vaccinated almost 540,000 people, including over 6,500 on Monday, since its roll-out of mass immunization on March 8, it said in a report on its verified Facebook account.

Those inoculated were medical staff and other frontline workers.

Vietnam has confirmed 2,985 coronavirus infections, including 1,607 local cases and 35 deaths, since the virus first struck the country on January 23, 2020, according to the health ministry’s data.

The Southeast Asian nation has seen a viral comeback, as 37 domestic cases have been recorded since April 27 after having gone about a month without detecting any community transmission.

Vietnam has seconded a team of 35 members to Laos to help with COVID-19 control and prevention, at a time when the neighboring country is grappling with the respiratory disease.

Laos confirmed 33 new cases on Monday, bringing its total number to 966.
