Mr. Hue’s garden won the third prize in the provincial contest “Model new rural residential area” with the content “beautiful garden in 2021”.

Mr. Hue said that many years ago, from the hilly land that specialized in growing acacia leaves, he boldly improved the land to grow cassava, cashew, watermelon, and then grow sugarcane, but the output was precarious, the income was only enough to cover living expenses for the family.

By 2015, when people sold a ton of pepper to buy 7 gold trees (at that time pepper was called “black gold”), creating a pepper growing fever in many provinces and cities, Mr. Hue also boldly invested because he received Pepper is found to be suitable for local soil conditions and has high economic value.

Thinking to do it, he invested VND 200 million to renovate a part of his family’s infertile land, bought a water pump, an automatic watering system, and cast cement pillars to plant 500 Vinh Linh pepper posts (Quang Ninh province). Treat).

Mr. Phan Van Hue actively researched knowledge and procedures for pepper care through books and internet, learning experiences from reputable pepper growers to apply.

In particular, his pepper garden is cultivated in a sustainable organic way, using biological products and organic fertilizers for pepper plants. From there, ensure the health of growers and gardens, spend less diseases and sell at high prices.

To have a clean pepper standard, his family does not use herbicides but only weeds manually. Every year, he buys 3 tons of chicken manure to compost with probiotics for about 3 months to fertilize pepper plants at the beginning of the rainy season and when the plants are seeded.

In addition, he also uses buffalo manure, cow dung, oil cake to compost. Using organic fertilizers is not only cheap, helps reduce production costs, but also regenerates soil nutrients, promoting the growth of microorganisms that are resistant to plant diseases.

“This pepper is not only for business but also for family use, so I pay great attention to quality. The composting process must be done by hand to feel secure. Growing pepper this way gives high yield, characteristic aroma, favored by customers”, Mr. Hue shared.

Rise out of poverty

With determination and painstaking care, his initial pepper garden grew green and expanded year by year. Up to now, the pepper garden has about 2,000 pillars on an area of 1ha.

After 3 years of planting, pepper plants give seeds, and in the 5th year, they give regular annual yields. If pepper growers in many places are often afraid of devaluation, his family’s pepper always has a stable price.

In 2020, Mr. Hue established a pepper growing cooperative, products with clear labels and QR codes for buyers to look up information. With the quality of clean, delicious, pungent pepper, pepper sells for 150,000-200,000 VND/kg.

“It can be said that thanks to this pepper garden, my family has risen out of poverty, built a spacious house, raised children to school. However, growing pepper also has many risks, growers need to take care of. Thorough, scientific, persistent to overcome”, Mr. Hue shared.

In addition to 1ha of pepper, Mr. Hue also intercropped with 2ha of organic fruit trees, some of which are giving good harvests (Photo: Ngo Linh).

To avoid the risk of crop yield, Mr. Hue said that when growing pepper, special attention must be paid to providing nutrients and adequate water for the plants, not being redundant.

In addition, the most dangerous disease for pepper plants is nematodes. In the rainy season, the weak root system is easily attacked by nematodes, causing wounds, creating conditions for fungi and other bacteria to penetrate and cause disease, causing the tree to die gradually, then spreading to the whole garden.

Despite facing many difficulties due to natural disasters and abnormal weather, Mr. Hue persisted in overcoming them, focusing on prevention rather than treatment to help keep his pepper garden healthy and maintain high productivity.

In addition, Mr. Hue also invested in planting more 2ha of fruit trees such as 400 guava roots, 100 durian roots, 150 custard-apple trees, 200 pomelo trees, 50 jackfruit trees… in the organic direction. With the selling price of 15,000-50,000 VND/kg depending on the type of product; Every year, the total economic model of Mr. Hue’s garden gives a net profit of more than 300 million dong.($1=24,000 VND)

According to Mr. Ho Anh Trung – Chairman of Que Long Commune, from his hard work, diligence and bold innovation in production, Mr. Phan Van Hue has risen to become rich in his native land, has been recognized for many years in a row. the title of “Good Farmer in Production and Business” at the provincial and district levels.
