These days, apricot-growing villages in An Nhon town are busy hiring people to gather leaves to stimulate apricot blossom in time for the 2023 Lunar New Year crop. Along National Highway 1A and some main roads in the town of An Nhon, people began to set up tents to sell Tet apricots.

As noted, although traders coming to buy apricots are not as busy as last year, at this time, gardeners are focusing on hiring workers to gather leaves so that apricot trees can focus on flowers to bloom in time for Tet.

Ms. Tran Thi Lan (70 years old, from Hao Duc village, Nhon An commune, An Nhon town) confided: “At the end of the year, gardeners need someone to gather apricot leaves, so I enlisted with my sisters to work as hired laborers to earn money. less money to buy Tet”.

According to Ms. Lan, every day, if a customer orders a cake with few hemp leaves, she stays at home to make it. Now, she enlists to gather apricot leaves, and earns 180,000 VND per day, although not high, but also has more money in and out of the field.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Quanh (32 years old) followed her sisters to collect apricot leaves. Quan’s group has 8 people, usually contracted the whole apricot garden and completed at the request of the garden owner.  

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Cai (70 years old, in Hao Duc village), with about 2,500 apricot trees, the rent alone cost tens of millions of dong.

“Making apricots is very hard. It takes a lot of effort to make apricots. It takes only a few hundred thousand dong for each crop to be sold for 4-5 years. This year, traders came to buy apricots late. Last year, this time the truck to buy apricot was full on the countryside road,” Ms. Cai said. .

According to the Economic Department of An Nhon town, the whole town has more than 10,000 households growing ornamental apricot trees. In 2022, the amount of apricot sales will be about 128 billion VND. Up to now, the town government has invested about 19 billion VND in 2 apricot villages in Nhon An and Nhon Phong communes, with a total area of ​​75ha for concentrated apricot cultivation.

Mr. Bui Van Cu, Standing Vice Chairman of An Nhon Town People’s Committee, said that although adverse weather caused some apricot orchards to bloom early, there are still many waiting buds, so the number of apricots sold to the market this year is forecasted. 1.5 times higher than the previous year.

An Nhon golden apricot festival is held for the first time

From January 9, 2023 to January 11, 2023, the People’s Committee of An Nhon town will organize the first An Nhon Golden Apricot Festival to introduce and promote the capital of apricots, promoting the development of traditional craft villages. associated with tourism development.
