Plant a 100-pot rose garden on the roof of his wife

DONG NAI – Without an earth garden, Mr. Long strengthened the roof of his house to plant nearly 40 varieties of persimmon, with more than 100 pots for his wife to have flowers to arrange every day.

Mr. Nguyen Van Long, 60 years old, from Ho Nai, Bien Hoa has planted roses for three years. Once, while his wife returned to his hometown, Mr. Long bought four pots of Sa Dec velvet roses to plant, making a surprise gift for his wife.

“The flowers bought from the garden bloom very big and beautiful. But by the second litter, the flowers are tiny. Wishing to plant beautiful flowers like gardens, I determined to learn how to grow this flower, ”said the man who worked as a sign designer for advertising.

Initially, Mr. Long planted flowers on the porch, but because there was not enough sunlight, the flowers were slow to grow. The number of days is increasing, the man decides to repair the house, reinforce the 42-square-meter metal roof in the small house behind, move the roses to the sun.

Many people warned to bring flowers to another roof to burn trees for firewood, but he was determined. Mr. Long used bricks to line the bottom of the pot, but not enough bricks, he had to put a few pots close to the iron surface. After a month, he saw trees placed on bricks and placed close to the iron to grow equally, producing red sprouts, so he removed all the tiles.

To find a suitable soil mix (substrate), Mr. Long buys the substrate in three different places, and grows a flower to see which pots grow best. After a year of research, he came up with his own recipe.

His substrates include Tribat soil, rice husks, coir, and worms. In the dry season, more coconut fiber, less husk to keep moisture. In the rainy season, more rice husks and less coir for good drainage. Do not mix cow manure because this type is hot, newly planted plants are weak and cannot be absorbed, so it is easy to kill the plant.

When plants flower, pruning is complete, add more fish protein, absolutely no use of chemical fertilizers.

Mr. Long planted various varieties of persimmon varieties from domestic varieties and infrared varieties adapted to the climatic conditions of the South. Currently, his garden has about 40 varieties of persimmon with nearly 100 large and small pots.

Seeing that Molinuxe trees grow well, the root shoots give strong branches, he extracted them into many small trees. “I love all varieties in my garden, not being biased for any particular variety,” he said, laughing.

The man is still cool with successfully grafting a two-color rose, such as Molinuex (yellow) and Blue Sky (purple) bush rose.

“In order to watch two flowers bloom at the same time, I have to wait a long time, to reach the fifth flower”, he shared.

In order for the Mac Spice or the inflorescence lines to produce a long, even, blooming inflorescence, pruning is very important. After each flowering, Mr. Long cut his hand vigorously about 20 cm away from the cluster, removing the extra branches. “If only a few buds are pruned, it is impossible for the flower cluster to be long and beautiful,” he said.

At the beginning of the rainy season this year, there are times when it lasts up to 10 days. Mr. Long’s rose garden is infected with fungus, fallen leaves, only branches remain. In order to save the tree, Mr. Long does not fertilize but prioritize treatment first.

Every two days he sprayed neem oil to kill fungus. When he saw that the plant was stronger, he sprayed the leaves. Re-spray neem oil every week to 10 days. After the rain stopped, the new germ began to grow, he added more organic nitrogen

His wife also makes a solution of chili, garlic, and ginger to prevent diseases every week for flowers.

The man spends three hours in the morning in the garden, watering twice a day. However, in the hot season, Mr. Long watered one more time in the afternoon. “I drain all the hot water in the tap, after a few minutes there is a cool stream of water, just spray the tree evenly from the top to the base”, he shared.

“Planting persimmon on the corrugated iron roof ‘trees are not turned into firewood’ is a success for me. Everyone says it is difficult, but try to know whether to do it or not”, Mr. Long shared.

From a person who has no knowledge of rose cultivation, now taking care of flowers has become Mr. Long’s passion.

Every day, he and his wife go to the roof to take care of the flowers. Beautiful blooming flower pots, besides being cut for the wife to arrange, make tea, make essential oils. He also often carried the pots that had hatched to put on the porch for his wife to see.

“In the past, my wife also asked or gave her flowers. After many years of busy doing business, taking care of my children, now having a flower garden for my wife is something I feel very happy about,” Long shared. Follow vnexpress/Photo: Character provided
