The Vietnam national football team has managed to stay within the top 100 of the FIFA world rankings, currently holding the 99th position. This ranking follows the conclusion of the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026, where Vietnam faced Malaysia in a third-place playoff, resulting in a 0-1 defeat.
Despite this setback, Vietnam's ranking remained stable due to minimal changes among teams surrounding them in the standings. Under the guidance of South Korean coach Kim Sang Sik, the team experienced a slight drop from 98th to 99th since the start of the tournament.
In the Southeast Asian region, Vietnam ranks second, trailing only Thailand, which is positioned at 93rd globally. Thailand's ranking remained unchanged despite their significant victory over Vietnam in the group stage, where they won 2-0, and their subsequent loss to Indonesia in a penalty shootout during the final.
Indonesia, which won the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026, rose one spot to 117th in the world rankings, while Malaysia climbed three places to 133rd, thanks to their victories over Singapore and Vietnam. Conversely, Singapore experienced the most significant decline, dropping three spots to 149th after a heavy defeat against Malaysia.
As the rankings reflect the competitive nature of football in Southeast Asia, the next months will be crucial for the teams as they prepare for upcoming international matches and tournaments.
