Vietnam National Team Climbs FIFA Rankings After ASEAN Cup Victory

The Vietnam national football team has celebrated a significant achievement in the FIFA rankings following their impressive 2-0 victory over Malaysia in the second leg of the ASEAN Cup 2026 semifinals. This win not only secured their place in the finals but also allowed the team to accumulate crucial points in the FIFA rankings.

According to Football Ranking, the victory at My Dinh Stadium earned Vietnam approximately 1.82 points, bringing their total to 1,234.34 points. As a result, Vietnam has surpassed Luxembourg, climbing to the 98th position in the world rankings, which is an improvement from their previous standing.

Earlier, the team also secured a 2-0 win against Malaysia in the first leg, which contributed an additional 1.85 points to their tally. Over the course of the two semifinal matches, Vietnam has amassed nearly 3.7 points in the FIFA rankings.

During the group stage of the tournament, Vietnam achieved three victories and one draw, defeating Timor Leste 7-0, Indonesia 3-0, and Cambodia 3-1, with a goalless draw against Singapore. Including the semifinals, the team has accumulated approximately 7.14 points from six matches in the AFF Cup 2026.

Although the AFF Cup does not fall under FIFA Days, meaning each match is calculated with a lower coefficient of 5, the team's consistent performance has significantly improved their ranking. This boost in the rankings serves as a morale booster for head coach Kim Sang-sik and his players as they prepare for the upcoming finals against Thailand.
