Thailand's national football team has achieved a remarkable milestone by climbing three spots to 91st in the FIFA rankings, following a perfect record in the ASEAN Cup 2026. The team secured victories against Laos, the Philippines, and Malaysia, earning them a total of 4.53 points in the rankings. This achievement is particularly significant as it marks the first time in 22 years that Thailand has surpassed China, which is currently ranked 92nd.

Under the guidance of coach Anthony Hudson, the Thai team has shown impressive form, leading Group B with 9 points. Their recent performances have not only boosted their ranking but also rekindled hopes for a strong showing in upcoming international competitions. The last time Thailand was ranked higher was in March 2008, when they reached 90th place.

Meanwhile, Vietnam's national team remains in 99th place globally, despite gaining 2.31 points after their matches against Timor Leste, Indonesia, and Singapore. The gap between Vietnam and Luxembourg, the team ranked just above them, is narrowing, with Vietnam trailing by less than three points. As the ASEAN Cup 2026 approaches, there is potential for Vietnam to improve their ranking further.

In Southeast Asia, Indonesia has also made progress, moving up one spot to 117th. Other teams in the region have not seen significant changes in their FIFA rankings. The upcoming FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026, scheduled for September, promises to be an exciting tournament, allowing teams to field their strongest squads. Vietnam will compete in Group B alongside Thailand, the Philippines, and Pakistan, while Group A features Indonesia, India, Malaysia, and Singapore. The top two teams from each group will advance to the finals, with the championship team receiving a prize of $1 million, significantly higher than the $300,000 awarded in the previous ASEAN Cup.
