Vietnam National Football Team Gains Points in FIFA Ranking

The Vietnam national football team has made significant strides in the FIFA rankings after their impressive 2-0 win against Thailand in the first leg of the ASEAN Cup 2026 final, held at Rajamangala Stadium on August 22. This victory has resulted in the team accumulating additional points, further enhancing their position in the global rankings.

According to the latest FIFA football ranking, Vietnam has gained a total of 9.74 points from their performances in the tournament, which includes six wins and one draw, making them the highest point earners among all teams competing in the ASEAN Cup 2026. As of now, the team has accumulated a total of 1,236.94 points, up from 1,227.20 points reported after the conclusion of the 2026 World Cup.

This recent performance has allowed Vietnam to climb one spot from 99th to 98th in the FIFA rankings as of August 25. If they continue their winning streak by defeating Thailand again in the return leg on August 26, they will receive a similar boost in points, potentially allowing them to rise even higher in the rankings.

The Vietnam national team, coached by Kim Sang-sik, is aiming for the championship title in the ASEAN Cup 2026, which would mark their fourth victory in this prestigious regional tournament. Their next challenge will be crucial as they prepare to host Thailand at My Dinh Stadium.

Looking ahead, Vietnam will also participate in the FIFA ASEAN Cup, scheduled for late September and early October, where they will compete in four matches, including three in Group B against Pakistan, the Philippines, and a rematch with Thailand. A strong performance in these matches could further elevate their ranking, with the potential to catch up to Thailand, currently ranked 93rd in the world.

As the team gears up for the return leg against Thailand, the focus remains on maintaining their unbeaten streak and achieving their goal of winning the ASEAN Cup, which would solidify their position among the top teams in the region.
