Central Vietnam Faces Heavy Rainfall Warning, Including Da Nang

Central Vietnam is currently under a weather alert as two significant rainfall events are forecasted to occur from October 6 to 8 and again from October 8 to 11. The cities of Da Nang and Hue have been highlighted as having the highest risk of flooding during this period.

The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting has reported that on October 6, a cold front is affecting the eastern region of Quang Ngai province, leading to heavy rains in the area. Rainfall is expected to vary, with some locations experiencing very heavy showers. Temperatures in the region are predicted to range between 21 to 24 degrees Celsius.

As of October 6, rainfall measurements from 7 AM to 3 PM have already recorded significant amounts, with places like Sen Thuy in Quang Tri receiving 195 mm and Hoa Khê in Da Nang recording 74 mm. The forecast indicates that from the evening of October 6 through October 8, the region from southern Quang Tri to Da Nang and eastern Quang Ngai will experience heavy to very heavy rainfall, with totals expected to reach between 100 to 200 mm, and some areas possibly exceeding 300 mm. Specifically, the region between Hue and Da Nang could see rainfall totals of 200 to 400 mm, with some areas receiving over 600 mm.

Furthermore, from the evening of October 8 to 9, additional rainfall is expected in the area, with amounts ranging from 40 to 80 mm, and localized areas potentially exceeding 150 mm. This widespread heavy rainfall is likely to extend further north and may last until around October 11.

Authorities have issued a level 2 disaster risk warning due to the anticipated heavy rains, which could lead to flooding, landslides, and thunderstorms. This warning is part of a classification system established by the Prime Minister, which categorizes disaster risks based on expected rainfall amounts and duration.

The situation in Central Vietnam is being closely monitored as residents prepare for the potential impacts of this severe weather.
