Tesla is once again delaying the reveal of its redesigned, second-generation Roadster, now set for October 15, 2026, in Waco, Texas. The event was initially planned for October 1 but has been pushed back due to severe weather conditions predicted for the area. In a post on X, Tesla stated, “We’ve been tracking the weather closely with local meteorologists, but given the severe conditions predicted & because this event can only be held outdoors, we’ve made the difficult decision to reschedule.”

The necessity for an outdoor setting is linked to Tesla's integration of cold gas thrusters from SpaceX, which are intended to enable the Roadster to fly in some capacity. This reveal has faced numerous delays in the past, with CEO Elon Musk previously suggesting an April Fools’ Day event as a potential reveal date, which he later deemed a way to provide himself “some deniability” if further delays occurred.

The concept for the second-generation Roadster was first introduced in 2017 during an event that also showcased Tesla’s Semi truck. The new Roadster is expected to be the first supercar designed entirely by Tesla, contrasting with the original Roadster that was based on the Lotus Elise. Tesla has collected $50,000 deposits from prospective buyers, with the base price estimated around $200,000. Additionally, some customers have paid up to $250,000 to reserve one of the limited “Founders Series” versions of the vehicle.

Despite the excitement surrounding the Roadster, the project has faced significant delays. Musk has indicated that it could take a year or more after the reveal for the vehicle to enter production. Critics, including OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, have expressed frustration over the lengthy wait, although Musk has claimed that Altman received a refund for his reservation.

As anticipation builds for the Roadster, the timeline for its production remains uncertain, reflecting the ongoing challenges Tesla faces in delivering on its ambitious promises.
