HSBC Vietnam Reports Significant Profit Growth in 2026

HSBC Vietnam has demonstrated impressive financial growth, reporting pre-tax profits of over 2.4 trillion VND in the first half of 2026. This figure represents a 19% increase compared to the same period in the previous year, showcasing the bank's continued success in the Vietnamese banking sector.

According to the recently released mid-year financial report, HSBC Vietnam has maintained double-digit profit growth, extending a trend of favorable business results over the years. The bank's core operations have driven this growth, with net interest income rising by 16% to reach 3.35 trillion VND. Additionally, the bank's foreign exchange and service sectors have also shown improvement compared to the previous year.

Notably, net income from foreign exchange trading surged by over 40%, amounting to 735 billion VND. This indicates that, beyond credit activities, revenue from financial services and foreign exchange continues to significantly contribute to HSBC Vietnam's profitability.

HSBC has established itself as one of the most effective foreign banks operating in Vietnam, consistently generating substantial profits. In the peak years of 2022-2023, the bank's pre-tax profit soared to over 6.5 trillion VND, marking the highest level in its history within the Vietnamese market. Following this peak, HSBC Vietnam has sustained annual pre-tax profits exceeding 4 trillion VND.

In terms of profit distribution, HSBC Vietnam transferred nearly 20 trillion VND back to its parent bank in Singapore, reflecting its strong profitability. In 2025 alone, the bank sent back approximately 2.8 trillion VND, while the previous year saw a distribution surpassing 3 trillion VND. Over the period from 2011 to 2025, the total profit distributed by HSBC Vietnam has reached around 19.9 trillion VND.

HSBC Vietnam's operational scale has also seen significant changes over the past decade. In 2011, the bank's total assets were just over 53 trillion VND. By 2018, this figure exceeded 100 trillion VND and continued to grow in subsequent years. As of 2022, HSBC Vietnam's total assets reached nearly 199 trillion VND, although there was a slight contraction in recent years. Nevertheless, the trend in customer lending remains upward, indicating that the reduction in total assets does not equate to a decline in credit activities.

As of the end of June 2026, HSBC Vietnam's total assets had increased to nearly 148 trillion VND, with customer loans surpassing 79 trillion VND. The bank's strong performance is expected to continue, with forecasts indicating that major banks will maintain double-digit growth in profits, while smaller banks may experience declines.
