A significant event occurred at Noi Bai Airport when a C-17A Globemaster III, a military transport aircraft from the Royal Australian Air Force, took to the skies. This impressive aircraft, measuring 53 meters in length, boasts a wingspan of 51.75 meters and a height of 16.8 meters. With an empty weight of approximately 128 tons, it can reach a maximum takeoff weight of 265 tons.

The C-17A is designed to transport heavy cargo, with a capacity to carry up to 77 tons. It can accommodate various military vehicles, including an Abrams tank, four Bushmaster armored vehicles, or three Black Hawk helicopters. Additionally, it has the capability to transport a CH-47F Chinook helicopter. The aircraft can also carry up to 134 passengers or 102 paratroopers, making it a versatile asset for military operations.

On September 23, the C-17A was in Hanoi to assist with a United Nations peacekeeping mission. It transported 63 personnel from the Level 2 Field Hospital No. 8, heading to South Sudan. Following this mission, the aircraft is expected to return with personnel from Level 2 Field Hospital No. 7, completing their deployment.

The Royal Australian Air Force operates eight C-17A Globemaster IIIs, all part of No. 36 Squadron based at Amberley. These aircraft are not only pivotal for military logistics but are also utilized for humanitarian aid and disaster relief missions, showcasing their importance in both military and civil operations.
