The Ministry of Education and Training in Vietnam has revealed the scholarship criteria for first-year students pursuing degrees in engineering and technology. Students can receive monthly scholarships ranging from 3.7 to 5.5 million VND, depending on their academic performance.

To qualify for these scholarships, students must achieve a minimum score of between 22.5 and 24.35 out of 30 in their entrance examinations. The highest scores are applicable to fields such as Technical Physics, Electrical Engineering, Electronics, and Telecommunications. Universities will use these scores along with the list of eligible programs to determine which students qualify for the scholarships.

This year marks the first time that students in fundamental sciences, critical engineering, and strategic technology fields are eligible for scholarships under Government Decree 179. The scholarships are typically awarded to the top 10% of students based on their scores, with the amount often covering tuition fees, depending on the specific program and the university's budget.

As of late August, the Ministry reported that out of over 633,000 students enrolled this year, approximately 121,000 registered for engineering and technology programs. To maintain their scholarship, students must not only achieve the required minimum score of 22.5 in the graduation exam, which includes Mathematics and two out of four subjects (Physics, Chemistry, Biology, English), but they also need to be among the top 30% of scorers in their respective fields. It is estimated that around 23,000 students will meet these criteria.

Additionally, another group of students will benefit from scholarships under Decree 179, specifically those who have won first, second, or third place at national or international competitions. The specific score requirements for various fields under this decree are as follows:

• Earth Sciences: 22.5
• Mathematics: 24.1
• Statistics: 22.5
• Computer Science: 24.3
• Information Technology: 22.5
• Mechanical Engineering: 23.3
• Electrical Engineering, Electronics, and Telecommunications: 24.1
• Chemical Engineering, Materials, Metallurgy, and Environment: 24
• Technical Physics: 24.35
• Geological Engineering: 22.5
• Mining Engineering: 22.5
• Construction: 22.5

These scholarships aim to encourage students to excel in their studies and contribute to the development of Vietnam's technological and engineering sectors.
