Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing and his wife, Kyu Kyu Hla, have officially begun their visit to Vietnam, arriving in Hanoi today. The visit is at the invitation of Vietnam's General Secretary and President To Lam, and it is significant as it represents the highest-level delegation exchange between the two countries since 2019.

This visit, taking place from September 4 to 6, comes shortly after Myanmar completed its general elections in January and formed a new government. President Min Aung Hlaing, who has held the presidency since April 2021, previously served in various military positions, including as the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces from 2011 to 2016.

Vietnam and Myanmar established diplomatic relations on May 28, 1975, and upgraded their partnership to a Comprehensive Cooperation Partnership in August 2017. In the first half of 2023, bilateral trade reached 336 million USD, marking a 26% increase compared to the same period in 2022. Vietnam's main imports from Myanmar include fruits, rubber, electronics, and agricultural products, while it exports fertilizers, textile materials, transportation vehicles, and machinery to Myanmar.

Vietnam has 107 active investment projects in Myanmar, with a total registered capital of over 1.4 billion USD, ranking fifth among 87 countries and territories where Vietnam invests abroad. The Vietnamese Ambassador to Myanmar, Nguyen Anh Duc, expressed optimism that President Min Aung Hlaing's visit will strengthen the traditional friendship and enhance political trust between the two nations, promoting the expansion of bilateral and multilateral cooperation.
