A significant explosion rocked a warehouse in the outskirts of Kyiv, Ukraine, on August 28, believed to be the result of a Russian drone strike. The attack injured at least six individuals and led to the evacuation of more than 200 residents from the area.

The explosion occurred around 8 PM local time when a Russian unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) reportedly struck or crashed into the premises of a business in Myla, a village northeast of the capital. Following the initial impact, a large fire broke out, resulting in secondary explosions that could be seen and heard from a distance.

Video footage captured by local residents showed a thick column of smoke rising from the site, followed by a large explosion that scattered burning debris around the area. According to AMK Mapping, an account specializing in open-source intelligence regarding the Ukraine conflict, the UAV identified as a Geran-4 struck an ammunition depot, leading to the fire and subsequent explosions. The warehouse was believed to contain rockets, artillery shells, and missiles.

Ukrainian officials have not confirmed the specifics regarding the type of UAV involved in the incident. Tymur Tkachenko, the head of the Kyiv regional military administration, reported that firefighters were able to extinguish the flames at five houses and a food business. However, one house was completely destroyed, and several others, along with a nursing facility and a fire truck, sustained damage.

The Ukrainian authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, focusing on potential negligence regarding the storage of explosive materials at the business premises. The Prosecutor General's Office stated that they would examine the legality of storing such materials and whether the business had the proper licenses.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Serhii Koretsky commented on the incident, emphasizing the need for accountability, particularly in light of a previous explosion at an ammunition depot in Vyshneve, Kyiv, on July 6, which resulted in nine fatalities and extensive evacuations. He condemned the repetition of such mistakes, labeling them as criminal negligence and asserting that those responsible would face severe penalties to prevent future occurrences.

As of now, the Russian Defense Ministry has not commented on the attack. The Ukrainian Air Force reported that on the same day, Russia launched a total of seven hybrid missiles and 96 UAVs targeting Ukraine, primarily directed at Kyiv, with Ukrainian air defenses successfully intercepting six missiles and 73 drones.
