On August 27, Hanoi experienced a heavy rainstorm that coincided with the evening rush hour, resulting in severe traffic congestion across multiple streets. Areas including Nguyen Trai, Cau Giay, and Pham Hung were reported to be flooded, with water levels reaching up to half a wheel of vehicles, causing extensive delays.

The rain began around 3 PM in the western districts, including Chuong My and Quoc Oai, before spreading into the city center. By 4:30 PM, the skies darkened and the downpour intensified, coinciding with the time many workers were leaving their offices. According to the Hanoi Drainage Company, some areas recorded over 100 mm of rainfall, with Phu Dien receiving 111 mm and Dai Mo 114 mm.

As the rain continued, many roads became impassable. On Doan Ke Thien Street, water accumulated to about 50 cm, forcing some motorists to push their motorcycles through the flood. At the Pham Hung intersection, vehicles were trapped in water up to half a wheel deep, leading to a traffic jam stretching nearly half a kilometer.

One commuter, Lan Anh, who left her office around 5:10 PM, reported being stuck at the Mai Dich intersection until 6:30 PM. She described the situation as chaotic, stating, "Every road is congested, and the Mai Dich intersection is the worst."

Traffic was also heavily congested on Vinh Tuy Bridge, which connects Vinh Tuy Ward with Long Bien. By 5:30 PM, vehicles began to pile up, especially in the lane designated for cars, with traffic nearly at a standstill due to ongoing construction work.

Despite the rain easing by 6:30 PM and water levels receding, many areas remained congested. On Ring Road 2, traffic jams extended approximately 3 km from the Vinh Tuy Bridge to Dam Quang Trung Street in Long Bien.

In the vicinity of My Dinh Stadium, water levels reached 20-30 cm, allowing for some normal traffic flow. However, just a few hundred meters away on Le Quang Dao Street, vehicles were again trapped in water, causing further delays.

The heavy rainfall in Hanoi is attributed to the tropical convergence zone affecting the southern Red River Delta and North Central region. The Northern Hydro-Meteorological Center has warned of localized flooding risks in various streets, with water levels potentially reaching 10-40 cm in some areas.

As the city continues to grapple with the aftermath of the rainfall, residents are advised to remain cautious and plan their routes accordingly.
