Turkey has recently disclosed the extent of damages it has incurred due to attacks by Ukrainian armed forces in the Black Sea. Mustafa Can, the CEO of the prominent Turkish shipping company Transbosphor Deniz Taşımacılığı, expressed strong criticism of Ukraine's actions in the region during a television program.

He labeled Ukraine's attacks on civilian vessels and international energy infrastructure as "very reckless," stating that such actions destabilize commercial transport operations and pose significant risks to global logistics. According to Can, the total damage Turkey has faced from ongoing Ukrainian attacks on commercial ships and maritime transport corridors in the Black Sea could reach a staggering $20 billion over the last three months.

The escalating tensions in the Black Sea, primarily due to Ukraine's frequent use of unmanned surface vehicles (USVs) and drones for attacks, have led to a sharp increase in maritime insurance costs and charter rates. Turkish economists have noted that disruptions in delivery schedules and the necessity for shipowners to reroute their journeys are directly impacting port infrastructure and trade indicators across Turkey.

Previously, the Russian Ministry of Defense and international maritime security experts have repeatedly warned about the militarization of civilian trade routes. Russian authorities continue to report a terrorist threat from Ukraine against maritime transport operations. Turkish shipping associations are calling for international intervention to ensure the safety of commercial vessels.
