The Vu Lan Festival, celebrated during the seventh lunar month, is a significant occasion for Buddhists in Vietnam, particularly in Ho Chi Minh City. Major temples such as Phap Hoa and Vietnam Quoc Tu are making extensive preparations to host thousands of visitors who come to pay their respects and seek blessings.

Preparations for the Vu Lan Festival at these temples are thorough, including the decoration of ceremonial altars, the preparation of thousands of rose pins, and organizing rituals for the deceased, releasing lanterns, and distributing gifts to those in need. This festival is not only a time to express gratitude to ancestors but also an opportunity for charitable acts and community support.

At Phap Hoa Temple, located on Truong Sa Street, preparations are conducted smoothly and orderly, thanks to years of established practices. Abbot Thich Quang Minh stated that the focus during Vu Lan is on traditional rituals, including offerings and the symbolic wearing of roses. From the 2nd to the 13th of the seventh lunar month (August 14 to 25), the temple will hold ceremonies at 5:30 PM and recite the Vu Lan Bao Hieu Sutra at 7 PM daily.

On the two main days of the festival, Phap Hoa Temple will conduct a meal offering for the spirits at 10 AM on the 14th of the seventh lunar month (August 26). The main Vu Lan celebration will take place on the full moon of the seventh lunar month (August 27), starting at 9 AM with the rose pin ceremony, followed by offerings and vegetarian meals for devotees at 11 AM.

At Tran Quoc Temple on Ngo Gia Tu Street, the Vu Lan Bao Hieu Sutra will be recited from the 1st to the 13th of the seventh lunar month (August 13 to 25). On the 14th of the seventh lunar month (August 26), a repentance ceremony will be held at 6 PM, followed by a music program celebrating Vu Lan at 8 AM on the full moon day, continuing with rituals and offerings throughout the day.

Vietnam Quoc Tu Temple will also hold various activities, including the Muc Lien Sam Phap ceremony at 5:45 PM from the 1st to the 13th of the seventh lunar month (August 13 to 25). On the 14th, multiple events will occur, starting early in the morning with a ceremony at 6:30 AM and the distribution of 500 charity gifts at 8:30 AM.

Vinh Nghiem Temple will conduct rituals from the 10th to the 12th of the seventh lunar month (August 22 to 24), including recitations and offerings. On the main day of the festival, the temple will hold various ceremonies, culminating in the rose pin ceremony at 6 PM.
