A man named Dang Van Khoi, 62, has been sentenced to nine years in prison for the murder of his nephew, Dang Van Bien, following a dispute that arose after another nephew had a motorcycle accident. The ruling was made on August 25 by the People's Court of Ha Tinh.
During the court proceedings, Khoi expressed remorse, stating that in a moment of anger, he took the life of his own nephew. He pleaded with the victim's family for forgiveness and hoped for a reduction in his sentence to make amends for his actions.
The court described Khoi's actions as particularly serious, violating the life of another person and disturbing public order. However, Khoi received some leniency due to his good character, lack of prior convictions, and his confession to the crime, which occurred while he was in a state of emotional distress.
The incident took place on February 23 when Khoi learned that his nephew, Dang Van Ha, had been involved in a motorcycle accident. While visiting his sister's house, Khoi made derogatory remarks about Ha's situation, which prompted a confrontation with his other nephew, Dang Van Bien, who was upset by Khoi's comments.
After a heated exchange, the two men engaged in a physical altercation that escalated from the bedroom to the dining area. During the struggle, Khoi picked up a 21 cm knife that had fallen to the floor and stabbed Bien in the chest. Despite being taken to the hospital, Bien succumbed to his injuries due to significant blood loss.
Khoi later turned himself into the local police, admitting to the crime. The case highlights the tragic consequences of family disputes and the impact of impulsive actions driven by anger.
