The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health has announced a new initiative to appoint doctors to lead local health stations, particularly in areas lacking effective management. This program is designed as a training and experience-gathering phase for healthcare professionals aspiring to leadership roles.

According to the Department, the temporary appointments will last between three to five years, allowing these doctors to gain firsthand experience in managing community healthcare facilities. Hospitals are required to submit lists of eligible doctors who are part of the leadership planning process to the Department for potential assignment.

PGS.TS.BS Tran Phu Manh Sieu, Director of Go Vap General Hospital, noted that the Department has asked hospitals to provide lists of doctors suitable for leadership roles. This initiative aims to ensure that health stations are adequately staffed with qualified personnel capable of improving healthcare delivery in their communities.

Dr. Tran Van Khanh, Director of Le Van Thinh Hospital, mentioned that their hospital had already begun sending doctors to health stations in need before the official directive. For instance, a specialist in obstetrics was appointed as deputy director of a health station in Binh Trung, where he is responsible for medical expertise.

These appointments are seen as a way to strengthen the connection between hospitals and health stations, with the latter benefiting from the specialized knowledge and support of hospital staff. Dr. Khanh referred to these doctors as the "extended arm" of hospitals, facilitating better healthcare services at the community level.

Furthermore, the initiative aims to address the shortage of leadership in health stations while enhancing the overall healthcare system in the city. The Department of Health emphasizes that the success of this program depends on selecting individuals who possess both the necessary skills and a commitment to community healthcare.
