Nguyễn Thị Hương, widely recognized as 'Teacher Hương Loramen', has recently been charged with fraud by the Hanoi police. The 27-year-old and her husband, Vũ Hải Long, are under investigation for allegedly deceiving customers through false advertising of their product, Loramen, which is marketed as a male enhancement supplement.
The charges were officially announced on August 22, 2023, as part of a broader investigation into the activities of Phú Lê, another individual linked to the case. Phú Lê, along with his wife Lã Thúy Kiều and accountant Phùng Thị Khanh, was previously charged with serious accounting violations and illegal issuance of invoices.
According to the investigation, Hương and her husband are accused of generating illicit profits exceeding 11.6 billion VND through deceptive marketing practices. The couple allegedly used three companies to conduct their business, with Loramen being the most prominently advertised product.
From 2017, Phú Lê and his wife operated their business without proper invoicing or tax declarations, receiving over 107 billion VND through various personal bank accounts. Lã Thúy Kiều is reported to have played a significant role in directing the business operations and managing sales, while Phú Lê claimed he did not use the product himself but relied on his wife's assurances to promote it.
The investigation has uncovered that Kiều engaged in fraudulent activities to legitimize the income received and minimize tax liabilities, which has resulted in significant losses to the state budget. She allegedly instructed her accountant and staff to create numerous false invoices, and lawyer Nguyễn Thị Hương Lan has been implicated in assisting Kiều in these violations by providing personal information for the creation of fake invoices totaling more than 1.5 billion VND.
This case highlights the ongoing issues of fraud and misrepresentation in the marketing of health products in Vietnam, raising concerns about consumer protection and regulatory oversight.
