Local Authorities Deny Fake News on Administrative Unit Restructuring

In recent days, several local authorities in Vietnam have publicly rejected rumors about plans to restructure administrative units at the commune level. This misinformation has been spreading across social media platforms, prompting official statements from various regions.

Ho Chi Minh City, for instance, has denied claims suggesting that the city would reduce its administrative units to only 60 communes and wards. The city’s government emphasized that the document purportedly supporting this claim is a forgery. Specifically, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee clarified that the circulated document, identified as Document No. 20923/VP-VX, lacked an attached appendix that was falsely included in the online versions.

Authorities in Tay Ninh province have also dismissed rumors about a proposed restructuring of its communes and wards, stating that any such plans would only be developed when deemed necessary. They assured that any restructuring proposals would be submitted to the relevant authorities for approval before implementation.

In Bac Ninh, similar misinformation claimed that the province would merge its 99 communes and wards into just 34 units. The Bac Ninh Department of Home Affairs refuted these claims, asserting that no such proposals had been developed since the establishment of the local government structure.

Additionally, Lào Cai province has faced similar rumors regarding the reduction of its administrative units from 99 to 34. Local officials have confirmed that these claims are unverified and do not reflect the current administrative restructuring efforts.

As misinformation continues to circulate, local governments are urging citizens to verify information through official channels and to refrain from sharing unverified documents that could cause public confusion. They stress the importance of conducting any administrative restructuring cautiously and scientifically, ensuring community consensus and stability.
