On August 13, a major traffic jam was reported on National Route 51, which connects to the Ho Chi Minh City-Long Thanh-Dau Giay expressway. The congestion stretches about 7 kilometers through Long Thanh, Dong Nai province, causing vehicles to line up in a near standstill.

According to a reporter from Vietnam News Agency, the traffic issues began around 9 AM on the same day. By 2 PM, the volume of vehicles remained high, with long lines of cars, trucks, and container vehicles moving slowly through the affected area.

The traffic jam spans from the interchange connecting to Long Thanh Airport to the Loc An intersection. At many times, vehicles were stacked in long rows, barely able to move. The situation worsened due to an increasing number of vehicles from the Ho Chi Minh City-Long Thanh-Dau Giay expressway merging onto National Route 51.

Drivers reported that the average travel time through this section is typically around 30 minutes. However, on this day, one driver, Phan Hoang Hung, mentioned that he spent nearly two hours stuck in traffic, moving only inch by inch as his fuel ran low.

One of the main causes of the prolonged traffic jam on National Route 51 is ongoing construction work, which has narrowed the road as part of a project to repair the damaged road surface and improve traffic safety systems. This project is expected to be completed by July 2026, but as of now, several sections remain unfinished, with many works still in progress, significantly affecting vehicle flow.

The Dong Nai Department of Construction has indicated that the project's progress is delayed due to the high volume of traffic on National Route 51 and additional work requirements. The department is urging contractors to expedite construction efforts, aiming for completion by the end of August 2026.
