The Ho Chi Minh City Command has made significant progress in its search for the remains of soldiers at Le Thi Rieng Park, recently uncovering an additional 18 remains on August 8. This brings the total number of identified remains to 245, as efforts continue to honor the sacrifices made during the Tet Offensive in 1968.

On August 8, the recovery team reported that they had found 18 more remains along with 14 associated artifacts. The search operations are focused on the second grave trench in area B of the park, where approximately 250 cubic meters of soil have been processed to access potential burial sites.

On the same day, a delegation led by Phan Thi Thang, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, visited the site to pay respects to former General Secretary Tran Phu and the fallen heroes. Following the memorial ceremony, the delegation expressed their gratitude and support to the teams actively involved in the recovery efforts, acknowledging their dedication and hard work.

Deputy Minister Phan Thi Thang emphasized the importance of perseverance and responsibility among the personnel involved, urging them to continue their diligent work in bringing these heroes back to their families and homeland.

The search for remains at Le Thi Rieng Park is based on findings from a workshop led by Deputy Prime Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra, which confirmed the existence of mass graves in the area previously known as Do Thanh Cemetery, now transformed into the park.

Historical accounts and witness testimonies suggest that hundreds of soldiers may have been buried in this location during the Tet Offensive, making the ongoing recovery efforts a vital undertaking to honor their memory. The first seven remains were discovered on July 6, and the total has now reached 245 as of August 8.
