On August 8, 2026, the President of Vietnam signed a decision to posthumously award the National Defense Medal, third class, to Sergeant Cao Tuan Anh. Sergeant Cao Tuan Anh, a soldier in the 2nd Platoon of the 17th Engineering Company, was recognized for his bravery during a landslide incident on August 7 at a national defense construction site in the Bạch Long Vĩ area of Hải Phòng. At approximately 10:20 AM, he noticed fellow soldier Nguyễn Bình Nguyên in a perilous situation and rushed to push him to safety, demonstrating remarkable courage and selflessness.

The Hải Phòng Military Command had previously promoted Cao Tuan Anh from private to sergeant in acknowledgment of his bravery. On the same day, the Central Youth Union also awarded him a certificate of merit for his heroic actions that endangered his own life to save a comrade.
