The ASEAN Film Festival 2026, organized by the Hong Kong - ASEAN Association, will commence on August 20 in the Special Administrative Region of Hong Kong, China. This year's festival will feature more than 30 selected films from 11 member countries, highlighting the rich cultural diversity of the ASEAN region.

Vietnam will be represented by the film 'The Sound of Crossing the Sea', which aims to promote Vietnamese culture and artistry to a broader international audience, particularly within the ASEAN community in Hong Kong. The festival will also include films from Hong Kong, mainland China, Australia, Pakistan, and Russia, enhancing cultural exchange among participating countries.

Notably, Timor Leste will make its debut at the festival, presenting a collection of short films centered on the theme of intangible musical heritage. The opening ceremony will feature the Philippine film 'Song of the Fireflies', setting the tone for a celebration of cinematic arts.

Other notable films from ASEAN countries include the teen comedy 'SuckSeed' from Thailand and the musical '881' from Singapore, alongside contributions from Malaysia, Myanmar, Brunei, Indonesia, Cambodia, and Laos. The festival aims to not only provide a rich artistic experience but also to foster a better understanding of the cultural diversity and creativity present in the ASEAN region.

According to Daryl Ng, President of the Hong Kong - ASEAN Association, cinema and music serve as universal languages that can bridge cultural gaps and connect generations. The organizers hope that the festival will enrich the audience's artistic experience and deepen the appreciation of ASEAN's cultural richness.
