Lam Dong province has announced an ambitious urban planning initiative for a coastal tourism area in Hoa Thang commune, covering nearly 32,000 hectares. The plan, revealed on July 31, aims to develop this region into a high-quality tourist destination and a significant growth hub in the eastern part of the province.
The urban plan anticipates a population increase in Hoa Thang, projecting it will reach approximately 112,300 residents by 2030, with a further rise to around 159,000 by 2050. The development is strategically linked to the national scenic site of Bau Trang, focusing on a harmonious integration of residential areas, coastal tourism, agricultural production, and renewable energy, while also preserving the local ecosystem.
According to the national tourism area plan for Mui Ne, the Hoa Thang region will be part of a designated sub-area covering about 7,130 hectares. This area is set to evolve into a premium coastal tourism urban center, emphasizing the conservation and enhancement of the national scenic site of Bau Trang and its unique sand dune system.
The planning documents outline the development of various tourism facilities, including resorts, water sports, eco-tourism, and commercial services, alongside the construction of a tourist port, public squares, themed parks, and communal spaces. The urban layout will feature seven functional sub-zones, each designed to offer distinct characteristics while ensuring cohesive integration within the broader tourism urban framework.
Nguyen Hong Hai, Vice Chairman of the Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee, highlighted the area's potential, citing its beautiful coastline and vast land resources as key factors for growth. He urged local authorities to expedite the public disclosure of the urban plan, establish implementation timelines, and enhance management of construction and land use to prevent illegal activities.
In addition, he called for prioritizing infrastructure investments to attract businesses and investors to align with the urban development goals. The local government is committed to managing the planning process effectively and facilitating a conducive environment for project execution.
As part of its commitment to sustainable development, Lam Dong aims to leverage the natural advantages of Hoa Thang, including its coastal resources and renewable energy potential, to foster economic growth and enhance the region's attractiveness as a tourism destination.
