A significant incident occurred on July 30, when a rock the size of a fist fell from the Kim Doi overpass onto a vehicle traveling on the Hanoi-Haiphong highway. The driver, identified as D. Ha from Hanoi, was driving alone when the rock struck the windshield, causing it to shatter and sending glass shards into the cabin.

At approximately 11:30 AM, while driving from Haiphong to Hanoi, the vehicle was hit by the falling rock as it passed under the overpass. The impact was severe enough to break the windshield, and fragments of glass flew into the driver's area. Fortunately, the rock hit the vehicle's dashboard camera before landing in the passenger seat area, preventing more serious injuries to the driver.

After the incident, D. Ha slowed down and carefully maneuvered the car to the emergency lane, where he reported the incident to the highway management unit. Authorities arrived on the scene about two hours later to document the event.

D. Ha expressed his relief at escaping injury, stating, "I was lucky not to be hit by the rock. If this had happened at night or if the driver had less experience, the consequences could have been much worse." The cost of repairing the vehicle was approximately 11 million VND.

The incident has raised concerns about safety on highways, as falling or thrown objects can lead to severe accidents, including loss of visibility for drivers. In such situations, drivers are advised to maintain a firm grip on the steering wheel, avoid sudden maneuvers, and safely pull over to the nearest emergency lane while activating hazard lights.

This is not the first occurrence of rocks being thrown at vehicles on highways in Vietnam. Similar incidents have been reported on routes like the Hanoi-Haiphong and Ho Chi Minh City-Dau Giay highways. In March, police in Quang Tri province identified six teenagers aged 13 to 15 who threw rocks at cars on the Vung Ang-Bung highway, causing damage estimated at around 55 million VND.
