Professor Vu Van Dinh, a distinguished physician and former President of the Vietnam Society of Emergency Medicine and Poison Control, passed away on July 29, 2026, at the age of 94. His death marks the end of a remarkable career dedicated to advancing emergency medicine in Vietnam.

Born in 1933 in Hai Duong Province, Professor Dinh was a pivotal figure in the establishment of modern emergency care systems in Vietnam. He served as the Head of the Emergency Department A9 at Bach Mai Hospital, a facility often referred to as the "gateway to survival" for critically ill patients. Throughout his career, he made significant contributions to emergency medicine, including the development of advanced techniques such as defibrillation, pacemaker insertion, and continuous blood filtration.

In the early 1980s, facing a surge in snakebite cases and the lack of available antivenom, Professor Dinh took the initiative to establish a snake breeding program to produce venom for research and serum development. His innovative approach not only provided a solution for snakebite victims but also laid the groundwork for the field of toxicology in Vietnam.

Professor Dinh's dedication to his profession earned him numerous accolades, including the title of People's Physician and multiple Labor Hero awards. In 2012, he was honored with the "Lifetime Contribution" award at a conference on hospital management in Hanoi.

A memorial service for Professor Vu Van Dinh will be held on August 1, 2026, at the Funeral Home No. 5 Tran Thanh Tong, Hanoi, followed by a burial ceremony.
