Ho Chi Minh City is intensifying its efforts to expedite the construction of significant transport projects, particularly focusing on the development of Ring Road 2 and the DT.748 route. This initiative aims to address critical infrastructure bottlenecks and enhance connectivity between urban areas, industrial zones, and seaports before the 2027-2030 period.
The upgrade and expansion of the DT.748 route, which commenced in August 2025, is a key component of this effort. The route begins at the Phu Thu intersection, connecting through Ring Road 4, and ends at the Northern Ring Road in My Phuoc Town. The project is divided into two main phases: the first phase covers the section from Ring Road 4 to the An Dien intersection, while the second phase extends from Phu Thu intersection to Ring Road 4 and from An Dien to the Northern Ring Road, with construction starting in May 2026.
Currently, construction teams are focused on completing the road expansion while maintaining the existing road width of approximately 7 meters to ensure continuous traffic flow. The authorities have approved compensation plans for 1,537 cases, totaling over 1.944 trillion VND, achieving around 96% of the necessary compensation. So far, 1,393 cases have been resolved, covering an area of 26.6 hectares, which is about 87% of the required land.
In addition to the DT.748 route, the city is prioritizing the completion of Ring Road 2, with a target to finish by the end of 2027. This project consists of two significant construction sections: the first stretches 3.5 kilometers from Phu Huu Bridge to Vo Nguyen Giap Road, and the second covers 2.4 kilometers from Vo Nguyen Giap Road to Pham Van Dong Road. Contractors are actively working on sections where land has been cleared, aiming to complete asphalt paving by the end of 2026. For areas yet to be handed over, project managers are coordinating closely with local authorities to finalize compensation procedures.
However, the project faces challenges, including localized land clearance issues and fluctuations in construction material prices. To overcome these obstacles, construction teams have been instructed to increase manpower and resources and to organize overtime work to meet the planned schedule. Once completed, Ring Road 2 is expected to significantly relieve traffic congestion on major routes such as Hanoi Highway, Pham Van Dong Road, and Vo Nguyen Giap Road.
Furthermore, Ho Chi Minh City is preparing to invest in and implement several large-scale projects aimed at expanding urban development and optimizing logistics capabilities for the entire southern economic region. Strategic projects include the construction of Ring Road 3, Ring Road 4, and the Ho Chi Minh City - Moc Bai expressway, alongside various bridges and interchanges.
The completion of a synchronized infrastructure system will not only resolve congestion points but also reduce transportation and storage costs for businesses. This development is expected to enhance the operational capacity of the Cai Mep - Thi Vai port complex and Tan Son Nhat airport in the coming years.
