Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 vs Z Flip8: What’s New After One Year?

Samsung has recently launched the Galaxy Z Flip8, and it brings several noteworthy improvements over the Galaxy Z Flip7, which debuted a year earlier. The latest model, revealed at the Galaxy Unpacked event on July 22, 2026, aims to address the shortcomings of previous foldable devices by introducing a more powerful Exynos 2600 processor, optimized thickness, and a refined hinge design that minimizes the visibility of the fold.

In terms of design, the Galaxy Z Flip8 is impressively thin, measuring just 6.1 mm when opened and 13.1 mm when folded, with a weight of 180 grams. This makes it more portable and comfortable for prolonged use compared to the Z Flip7, which weighs 188 grams and has a slightly thicker profile. Users will appreciate the lighter feel when using the device for activities like web browsing or watching videos.

Both models feature high-quality displays with vibrant colors and adaptive refresh rates of 1-120Hz. However, the Z Flip8 boasts a new hinge technology that significantly reduces the visibility of the crease in the middle of the screen, providing a smoother tactile experience. In contrast, the crease on the Z Flip7 is still noticeable, affecting the overall user experience.

Performance-wise, the Galaxy Z Flip8 is powered by the advanced 2nm Exynos 2600 processor, which promises better energy efficiency and heat management compared to the 3nm Exynos 2500 chip used in the Z Flip7. While the Z Flip7 still delivers strong performance, particularly in gaming and multitasking, the new model is expected to provide a performance boost of approximately 20%.

Camera capabilities remain similar between the two models, with both featuring a dual-camera system on the back (50MP and 12MP) and a 10MP front camera. However, the Z Flip8's improved processing power may enhance image quality through better AI algorithms.

Battery life is comparable, with both devices housing a 4,300 mAh battery and supporting 25W fast charging. The Z Flip8 may offer slightly better battery optimization due to its new processor.

In conclusion, while the upgrades in the Galaxy Z Flip8 are notable, they may not be compelling enough for current Z Flip7 users to make the switch. However, for those upgrading from older models or purchasing a foldable phone for the first time, the Z Flip8 offers a more refined experience with enhanced performance and design. For budget-conscious consumers, the Z Flip7 remains an attractive option with its stylish design and solid functionality.
