Nội Bài Airport Introduces Automated Check-in and Baggage Drop

Nội Bài Airport Introduces Automated Check-in and Baggage Drop

From July 20, passengers traveling on international flights with Vietnam Airlines at Terminal 2 of Nội Bài International Airport can utilize an automated kiosk system for check-in and baggage drop-off. This service is designed to provide a more convenient and proactive experience for travelers while enhancing operational efficiency at the airport.

The system, implemented in collaboration with Nội Bài International Airport, is currently in a trial phase for international flight passengers. This initiative marks a significant step in Vietnam Airlines' digital transformation journey, aiming to diversify check-in methods and progressively improve the automated digital experience for passengers from ground to air.

Passengers can check in using the kiosk system from six hours to 60 minutes before their flight and drop off their luggage from three hours to 50 minutes prior to departure. The kiosks are located in the A-B island area and at counters A01 and A02 within Terminal 2. This service is available for passengers with valid documentation who do not require special assistance.

The entire process, from check-in to printing boarding passes and baggage tags, is conducted at the automated kiosks. After completing these steps, passengers can attach their luggage tags and proceed to the automated drop-off counter. Vietnam Airlines staff will be available to assist if needed. Once finished, travelers can move directly to the departure area for security screening.

Prior to the implementation at Nội Bài, Vietnam Airlines successfully launched self-service check-in and baggage drop-off at various airports, including Tan Son Nhat, Da Nang, and Phu Bai (Hue), and has also operated at major international airports such as Changi (Singapore), Frankfurt (Germany), Fukuoka, and Nagoya (Japan).

Dang Anh Tuan, Deputy General Director of Vietnam Airlines, stated, "The trial of the automated check-in and baggage drop-off system is a further step in our digital transformation journey. We aim to provide passengers with more options during check-in while optimizing operational efficiency and enhancing service quality to meet global airline standards." The introduction of the kiosk system is expected to empower passengers in the check-in process, reduce waiting times during peak hours, and allow ground staff to focus on assisting passengers with special needs or documentation verification, ultimately improving service quality at the terminal.

In the future, Vietnam Airlines plans to assess the effectiveness of this service to expand automated check-in and baggage drop-off services at other airports both domestically and internationally.
