Hanoi Unveils 100-Year Urban Planning Model

On June 29, 2023, an exhibition featuring a model of Hanoi's 100-year urban planning vision was inaugurated at the Hanoi Museum, located on Pham Hung Street, Tu Liem Ward. Alongside this exhibition, a conference was held to announce the comprehensive plan for the capital and promote investment opportunities for the year 2026. Approximately 1,200 delegates attended the conference, including between 580 and 780 investors and businesses from both domestic and international backgrounds.

This marks the first time in urban planning history that Hanoi has developed a project with a vision extending 100 years into the future. To help citizens visualize the capital's future, the organizers displayed the comprehensive plan through a 7-meter diameter circular model, which incorporates the latest guidelines of the 100-year plan. The fourth floor of the museum, covering about 1,200 square meters, features a 3D mapping technology display that vividly illustrates the planning directions.

The exhibition also includes large panels showcasing the evolution of Hanoi's urban planning through various historical periods, highlighting the expansion of the capital's administrative boundaries and the development of urban space. It features maps of the city's infrastructure, land use in urban areas, and functional zones. Additionally, the museum displays blueprints and models of several significant city projects and offers a 3D documentary viewing area along with an experimental information retrieval system for urban planning.

On May 13, the Hanoi People's Committee approved the comprehensive 100-year urban planning vision, which integrates previous plans for the capital. This plan defines the entire administrative boundary of the capital, covering a natural area of 3,359 square kilometers, with a projected population of 14-15 million by 2035 and 17-19 million by 2065. The vision aims to develop Hanoi as a 'Cultural - Civilized - Modern - Happy' capital, with a focus on human-centered development and a multi-layered, multi-polar urban structure.

The future Hanoi will feature nine development poles, nine major centers, and nine dynamic axes, with the Red River serving as the main ecological and cultural landscape axis. From 2026 to 2035, the city aims for an average GRDP growth rate of over 11% per year, targeting a GRDP of approximately $200 billion by 2035 and about $640 billion by 2045. The 100-year vision positions Hanoi to become a global city characterized by 'Cultural - Intelligent - Creative - Ecological' attributes, ranking among the capitals with the highest quality of life and happiness worldwide.

During the preparation for the conference on June 28, the Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee, Vu Dai Thang, emphasized that this is the first large-scale investment promotion conference held after a long period, marking a significant milestone in the socio-economic development of the capital. He expressed a desire for all units involved to focus their efforts to ensure that the program leaves a strong impression and demonstrates clear innovations compared to previous investment promotion events.
