Markets blacklisted for selling counterfeit goods
The US Trade Representative (USTR) office has blacklisted Vietnam's well-known markets in its 2020 review,

In a significant crackdown on counterfeit goods, Nguyen Xuan Hoang, a 28-year-old shop owner in Ninh Binh, has been charged with violating intellectual property rights. The Ninh Binh Police Department announced on June 26 that Hoang was found selling more than 700 counterfeit products, including clothing, shoes, and belts, which he had acquired without proper documentation.
Authorities discovered that Hoang was operating his business on Tran Nhan Tong Street in Vinh Tru Commune, where he displayed a variety of fake luxury items to attract consumers who favor high-end brands. The total value of the counterfeit goods was estimated to exceed 300 million VND.
During the investigation, it was revealed that Hoang had not obtained any contracts or authorization from the legitimate manufacturers of the brands he was imitating. Despite knowing the popularity of these brands among consumers, he chose to sell these unauthorized items for personal profit.
The Ninh Binh Economic Police conducted a thorough inspection of Hoang's business and found substantial evidence of his illegal activities. As a result, they have initiated legal proceedings against him, and the investigation is ongoing to ensure that all aspects of the case are addressed.
This incident highlights the ongoing issue of counterfeit goods in Vietnam, where the demand for luxury items often leads to the proliferation of fake products. Authorities are taking steps to combat this trend and protect intellectual property rights.
