Bến Bạch Đằng's Transformation with New Underground Mall

Ho Chi Minh City has finalized plans to invest in the construction of the Bến Nhà Rồng Cultural Park and public green spaces at Bến Bạch Đằng. This initiative is expected to transform the central area of the city significantly. The investment plan, approved by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council, aims to complete contract signing procedures by the end of this year, with construction anticipated to begin in the third quarter of 2026 and conclude by the second quarter of 2029.

The project will include the underground construction of a parking lot and shopping center at Bến Bạch Đằng, catering to the parking and entertainment needs of both locals and visitors. Additionally, plans involve expanding the riverbank and enhancing the architectural landscape and green park spaces.

At the Bến Nhà Rồng - Khánh Hội area, the city will also develop the Bến Nhà Rồng Cultural Park. Many warehouses, docks, and offices in the former port area have already been relocated. After two months of construction, the renovation of the Ho Chi Minh Museum branch in the Bến Nhà Rồng - Khánh Hội area is progressing rapidly.

This cultural park project is one of four key initiatives approved by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council during its third session on June 19, 2026, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the city officially adopting the name of President Ho Chi Minh on July 2, 1976.

The Saigon Port headquarters is set to be renovated into office spaces, exhibition areas, and event venues, alongside the restoration of the Amiral Latouche ship model for display and tourism services. The project will also feature green spaces, cultural and sports facilities, and a tourist reception area, as well as improvements to existing structures.

Moreover, the project will expand Nguyễn Tất Thành Street to accommodate 8-10 lanes and construct an underpass at Hoàng Diệu. The over 150-year-old Tân Thuận 1 Bridge will be demolished and rebuilt to support six lanes, while Tân Thuận 2 Bridge will be widened to eight lanes. A pedestrian bridge connecting the Nhà Rồng - Khánh Hội Port area to Bến Bạch Đằng is also included in the plans.

Overall, the project will cover approximately 73.3 hectares, with a preliminary investment of 29.317 trillion VND, of which 19.095 trillion VND will be financed through land use and 10.222 trillion VND from the city budget.
