On June 20, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training announced that Nguyen Dang Phuc emerged as the top scorer in the 10th grade entrance exam. Phuc, a student from Hong Ngoc Primary and Secondary School in Tan Thoi Hoa Ward, achieved perfect scores in both Mathematics and English.
While ten other candidates scored between 28.75 and 29.75, benefiting from priority points ranging from 1 to 3.5, the Department determined that the top scorer is the one with the highest total score across the three subjects, excluding any priority points. This year, the entrance exam saw over 151,000 candidates, making it the largest in the country.
According to the school’s Facebook page, Phuc has also been accepted into the Mathematics specialized program at Tran Dai Nghia High School and the National University of Ho Chi Minh City’s gifted school. He previously won a third prize in the city’s Mathematics competition and holds an IELTS score of 6.5.
The exam concluded on June 2, and with the level of difficulty reduced compared to previous years in the area, many educators and principals anticipate an increase in the admission scores by approximately 0.25 to 2 points. The Department has released the admission standards for specialized and integrated classes, along with the scores of all 151,000 candidates. The standard scores for regular 10th grade admission are expected to be announced after June 23.
Nguyen Dang Phuc’s achievement highlights the academic excellence found within the city’s educational institutions, as well as the competitive spirit among students aiming for high academic standards.
