EVNNPC Chairman is among the top typical ASEAN businesswomen

Ms. Do Nguyet Anh has 28 years of contributions to developing the electricity industry and gender equality, receiving the title of Outstanding ASEAN Businesswoman in 2023.

The ceremony to announce the 2023 ASEAN Awards and award the title "Outstanding ASEAN Women Entrepreneur 2023" by the took place on the evening of September 22 in Hanoi.

Ms. Do Nguyet Anh is currently the Chairwoman of the Board of Members of the Northern Power Corporation (EVNNPC). At the awards night, she was one of six Vietnamese businesswomen honoured. Previously, she was recognized as one of 15 businesswomen in the top 60 Outstanding Entrepreneurs of Vietnam in 2022.
Under the direction of Ms Do Nguyet Anh, EVNNPC continuously innovates and develops, contributing to Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) to ensure national energy security. EVNNPC is responsible for trading and distributing electricity in 27 Northern provinces and cities with more than 11 million customers.

In 2018-2022, EVNNPC's total commercial electricity output was 377,645 million kWh, with an average increase rate of 8.61%, effectively meeting socio-economic development needs. The North has the country's highest electricity consumption level; 65% of commercial electricity output is used to serve industrial production.

Also, during this period, EVNNPC's power loss rate decreased from 5.1% to 4.1%, contributing to improving the efficiency of the power system and saving social resources. The electricity access index decreased from 5.81 days in 2018 to 3.76 days in 2022, contributing to attracting domestic and foreign investment capital and improving the economy's competitiveness.

During that journey, Ms. Do Nguyet Anh spent nearly 30 years contributing to the electricity industry. She participated in directing a series of large projects, such as pulling underground cables to bring electricity to the national grid to Co To Island, Quang Ninh province or power supply projects for industrial parks and large enterprises...

In 2021-2022, EVNNPC was continuously certified by the international credit rating organization Fitch Ratings to have a long-term debt issuer rating (IDR) at BB - Positive outlook, equal to the national rating of Vietnam and parent company EVN. This result is higher than the 2020 credit rating of BB - Stable outlook.
Under the executive direction of Ms. Do Nguyet Anh, EVNNPC considers activities for the community and social security to be a responsibility. The Corporation also encourages and creates conditions for member units and individuals to carry out volunteer social activities such as giving back gratitude, supporting people experiencing poverty, protecting the environment...

EVNNPC has always been a bright spot in the power industry in rural electrification. Up to now, 100% of communes (4,467 communes) and 99.23% of rural households in the management unit's area have had electricity from the national grid. According to assessments by world organizations such as the World Bank or the Asian Development Bank (ADB), this result is at the top of the world. That means the social security value that EVNNPC brings to the community is huge.

During the COVID-19 epidemic, the Corporation reduced electricity prices for affected groups with a total amount of VND 4,396 billion, Installing new electrical systems for 1,500 poor households, 62 medical facilities, and 18 schools. The unit provides free meter installation and transformer station cleaning for more than 1,000 businesses. Support poor people in mountainous areas with lighting for daily life with 1,091 street light poles and many other programs.

Ms. Do Nguyet Anh said that EVNNPC belongs to the Top 10 large enterprises in Vietnam with over 26,000 employees and is in a large and complex economic and technical industry - which is often run by men. As a female leader at the head of the unit, she understands that women will face some difficulties but also have many advantages. Therefore, at EVNNPC, everything is done professionally, with a clear division of functions, tasks, and responsibilities from individual to collective and a timely, fair, and transparent reward system. 

The female Chairwoman said women participated in leadership and management less than now, especially in the electricity industry. At EVN, in recent years, work for the advancement of women has been implemented extensively and is highly practical. "For the Advancement of Women," committees at all levels have specific annual action programs. Gender equality work has had many positive results.

EVNNPC is one unit that performs gender equality work well in EVN; the Corporation's female employees always maintain a stable rate of over 26%. The proportion of women in the unit's management and leadership roles is also at the top (over 14%). Female workers have stable, increasingly high-quality jobs. They are also confident and dynamic and promote more creative initiatives, contributing significantly to the results of the Corporation.
