HCMC – Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh has lost his membership of the Politburo and of the Party Central Committee while Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam is no longer a member of the Party Central Committee.

The 13th Party Central Committee yesterday, December 30, called an extraordinary meeting to discuss and decide on personnel matters.

The committee voted for the release of Pham Binh Minh, a 64-year-old native of Nam Dinh Province, from the Politburo and the Party Central Committee.

Minh was elected as alternate member of the 10th Party Central Committee in April 2006 and became an official member of the committee in January 2009. Since then, he won his re-elections to the committee in the 11th, 12th and 13th tenures. In the 12th and 13th tenures, he had served as Politburo member.

Before he took the post of permanent deputy PM in April 2021, he had held various senior positions such as deputy foreign minister, permanent deputy foreign minister, foreign minister, and deputy PM cum foreign minister.

The 13th Party Central Committee yesterday also voted for the release of Deputy PM Vu Duc Dam from the committee

The 59-year-old is a native of Hai Duong Province. In the 10th tenure of the committee, he was elected as alternate member of the committee and full member in the 11th, 12th and 13th tenures.

Dam rose through the ranks, having held positions like chairman of the Quang Ninh Province People’s Committee, secretary of the Quang Ninh Province Party Committee, and minister-chairman of the Government Office.

Since November 2013, he has served as deputy PM. From 2020 and August 2021, he led the national steering committee for Covid-19 prevention and control.

At the extraordinary meeting, the Party Central Committee also referred two senior officials to the Politburo to request the National Assembly for approval of two new deputy PMs for the 2021-2026 term, reported the local media.
