HCMC – The demand for new employees in HCMC is estimated to reach 43,000 in the last two months of this year, said Nguyen Van Lam, deputy director of the HCMC Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs Department.

Job vacancies are mainly in the commerce-service and consumer goods fields, textile, mechanical engineering, delivery and food processing industries.

Some 26 enterprises in HCMC reported their layoffs in 2022 due to changes in organizational structures and technology, and falling orders. However, many businesses still need to hire new staff before the Tet holiday, according to the department.

A survey of 285 companies with over 200 employees each shows that 159 need to hire more workers. As a result, their demand for labor in the next two months will reach more than 8,300 people.

Accordingly, some 43,000 more workers would be employed by enterprises in HCMC to achieve their year-end production targets, Lam said.

As of October 2022, HCMC was home to nearly 249,000 businesses with nearly 2.5 million contracted employees, about 345,000 more than last year.

The department will support workers in seeking jobs through job search websites and placement centers, promoting vocational training in the city, and working with other provinces to find jobs.
