According to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), the total volume of pangasius exports to the USA in 2021 reached USD 370.6 million, two times larger than the figures of the previous year.

The strong growth of pangasius exports to the USA in the past year has had a significant impact on the final results of the 16th Period of Review of anti-dumping tax on pangasius.

To be more specific, at the end of June 2021, the US Department of Commerce (DOC) announced the final results of the 16th Period of Review (POR16) for frozen pangasius shipments imported from Vietnam from August 1, 2018 to July 31, 2019.

Accordingly, two Vietnamese pangasius exporters, namely Vinh Hoan Corporation (VHC - Dong Thap) and Nam Viet Corporation (NAVICO - An Giang) had enjoyed a tax rate of 0%.

This positive move has constantly boosted the growth rate of pangasius exports to the USA. Particularly in December 2021, the export value of pangasius to the USA reached USD 46.6 million, up 67% over the same period last year.

Pangasius exports reached USD 1.61 billion in 2021 - an increase of 8.4% compared to 2020. The five largest markets of Vietnamese pangasius are China - Hong Kong, USA, CPTPP, EU and Brazil. The USA is the second largest market for Vietnamese pangasius after China - Hong Kong.

In the past year, pangasius exports to China - Hong Kong reached USD 449.8 million, accounting for 27.8% of total exports, down 12.6% compared to 2020.
