Localities asked to cope with Typhoon Rai and soon restore production

Rescue forces must be ready to cope with flash floods and landslides and provide necessities for people living on islands in emergency situations.

NDO - The National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control sent an official dispatch on December 20, requesting the Committees for Search and Rescue in coastal provinces and cities from Quang Ninh to Kien Giang, to devise measures to safely respond to typhoon Rai and recover production soon.

The official dispatch stated that Typhoon Rai, the ninth storm of this year’s hurricane season in the East Sea/South China Sea, is still currently strong at levels 10-11, with shock up to level 13, moving north-northeast at a speed of 15-20km/h, with waves from 5-7m high.

The Committee for Search and Rescue in provinces and cities were required to closely monitor the typhoon’s developments in order to instruct vessels to find safe shelter and take measures to ensure the safety of the people.

Localities must also make plans to evacuate people living in areas with high-risk floods and landslides, not only to ensure the safety of the people but also following pandemic prevention and control regulations.

Rescue forces must be ready to cope with flash floods and landslides and provide necessities for people living on islands in emergency situations.

Measures must be implemented to protect dyke systems and ensure the safety of dams, especially key reservoirs, small hydroelectric reservoirs and works under construction or repair.
