Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh receives OECD Secretary General

NDO/VNA - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received Mathias Cormann, Secretary General of the Economic Cooperation and Development Organisation (OECD) in Paris on November 5 (local time) during his official visit to France.


The PM thanked OECD for close cooperation with Vietnam, especially in providing consultancy, policy recommendations, making economic reports to serve the planning of the country’s socio-economic development goals.

He proposed the OECD continue supporting Vietnam in post-pandemic socio-economic recovery, consultancy on policies and resource mobilisation for in high-quality human resources development.

Chinh wished for the OECD’s continued support for the mobilisation of resources, particularly capital, technology, effective governance experience in order to help Vietnam perform restructuring and growth model transformation, and implement commitments on greenhouse emission reduction at the COP26.

OECD Secretary General Cormann expressed his impression on Vietnam’s results in controlling the pandemic as well as maintaining macro-economic stability and positive economic momentum.

He welcomed Vietnam’s strong commitment on greenhouse emission reduction at COP26, saying it showed the country’s determination in joining hands to respond to challenges on climate change, while affirming the OECD’s pledge to accompany Vietnam in the process.

He stressed that Vietnam is the OECD’s important partner in Southeast Asia, wishing to closely cooperate with the country as well as other regional countries in the coming time.

He underlined the importance of the Memorandum of Understanding on enhancing cooperation between Vietnam and the OECD for the 2022-26 period, saying it will create a framework for promoting bilateral collaboration in areas, especially in digital transformation, green growth, response to climate change, completion of institutions, improvement of human resources quality.
Also at the meeting, the OECD official handed over to PM Chinh the OECD-freshly completed clean energy finance and investment policy review of Vietnam.

PM Chinh then witnessed the signing of the MoU on cooperation between Vietnam and the OECD for the 2022-26 period between Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son an OECD Secretary General Mathis Cormann.
