HCMC - The Ministry of Health confirmed 5,149 new Covid-19 cases, including 5,144 domestic infections in 23 cities and provinces and five imported cases this morning, August 10, taking the country’s Covid-19 tally to 224,894.

HCMC recorded the biggest number of new domestic infections with 2,490 cases, followed by Binh Duong with 1,325, Dong Nai with 354, Long An with 313, Ba Ria-Vung Tau with 109, Tay Ninh with 102 and Tien Giang with 100, all in the South.

Ben Tre, An Giang, Vinh Long, Soc Trang, Ninh Thuan, Kien Giang, Can Tho, Daklak, Phu Yen and Dong Thap reported 13 to 58 cases each.

Hau Giang, Gia Lai, Ca Mau, Hai Duong, Bac Lieu and Hanoi had less than 10 new infections each.

The country has reported 220,906 locally transmitted Covid-19 infections in 62 cities and provinces in the fourth wave of the pandemic, which began in late April.

Up to now, 75,920 Covid-19 patients in the country have fully recovered. Meanwhile, more than 500 patients are currently in critical condition and over 20 patients have to rely on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation.

To increase Covid-19 treatment capacity, some localities hit hard by the pandemic have set up new field hospitals.

HCMC is implementing the second phase of its Resuscitation Hospital for Covid-19 Patients. With 200 beds, the second phase of the hospital will receive Covid-19 patients in critical condition or with severe symptoms.

On August 9, the steering committee for Covid-19 infection prevention and control of Binh Duong Province put the Field Hospital No. 4 for Covid-19 Treatment into operation.

The Mekong Delta city of Can Tho has set up two new Covid-19 field hospitals, including the Field Hospital No. 4 with 400 beds in Thuong Thanh Ward, Cai Rang District and the Field Hospital No. 5 with 250 beds in An Hoa Ward, Ninh Kieu District. The city currently has 13 hospitals for Covid-19 treatment, including nine field hospitals with a total of 2,400 beds.
