HCMC – The Thu Duc City government in HCMC has ordered the suspension of direct transactions at the Thu Duc Agricultural Wholesale Market starting from 8 a.m. today, July 7, due to the complicated Covid-19 situation in the city.

Trading activities will be allowed to resume once the market meets all requirements for Covid-19 infection prevention and control, reported VietnamPlus.

The authorities asked the Thu Duc Agricultural Wholesale Market JSC to inform wholesalers, retailers of the suspension, so that they can take measures to switch to online sales to cope with the new situation and ensure their commodities will be delivered to customers during this period.

Wholesalers are also required to move commodities out of the market by 8 p.m. today.

Besides this, the company was told to join hands with the relevant agencies to disinfect the whole market, as well as coordinate with the HCMC Department of Industry and Trade and the government of Thu Duc City to map out Covid-19 response plans once the market resumes operations.

HCMC reportedly has some 243 wet markets, 236 supermarkets, 45 shopping malls and more than 2,700 retailing stores. The wholesale markets supply over 70% of goods for the city’s market.

Up to now, the three major wholesale markets in HCMC, namely Hoc Mon, Binh Dien and Thu Duc, have been closed to cope with the pandemic.

Further, over 100 local wet markets suspended operations, while over 50 supermarkets and convenience stores shut down as Covid-19 is spreading, such as Son Ky Market in Tan Phu District, Hoang Hoa Tham Market in Tan Binh District, Tan Dinh and Dan Sinh markets in District 1, Pham The Hien Market in District 8, Tan Lap Market in Thu Duc City and Lotte Mart supermarket in District 7, the local media reported.
