HCMC detects 43 more Covid-19 infections

HCMC - The Ministry of Health this evening, June 29 confirmed 175 new Covid-19 cases, including three imported cases in Tay Ninh and 172 domestic infections in 16 provinces and cities with HCMC accounting for the most at 43, sending the country’s Covid-19 tally to 16,413.

Up to 24 locally-infected cases were detected in Binh Duong, 22 in Tien Giang, 21 each in Dong Thap and Quang Ngai, 12 each in Bac Giang and Nghe An, four each in Long An and Dong Nai, two each in Bac Ninh and Phu Yen, and one each in Binh Thuan, Lang Son, Hung Yen, Ha Tinh and Ba Ria-Vung Tau.

As many as 137 domestic Covid-19 cases were found at quarantine centers or in areas under lockdown.

The latest Covid-19 cases raised the day’s total number of infections to 372, while an additional 245 Covid-19 patients have been declared free of the virus today, taking the country’s total recoveries to 6,764.

Since April 27, Vietnam has reported 13,054 community-transmitted cases in 49 provinces and cities, with Ba Ria-Vung Tau being the latest virus-hit locality.

To quickly bring the Covid-19 pandemic under control, HCMC has set up 22 special teams in charge of supporting Covid-19 infection prevention and control activities in Thu Duc City and other districts.

Each team includes an official of the municipal Department of Health, a member of the HCMC Youth Union, medical workers and students of medicine universities.

The governments of Thu Duc City and other districts were told to cooperate with the special teams to effectively prevent the spread of Covid-19.

In related news, Nidec Sankyo at Saigon Hi-Tech Park in Thu Duc City has been locked down after one Covid-19 case was detected yesterday, prompting 2,800 employees there to be locked in.

As the 2,800 employees, whose samples have been taken for testing, could not leave the firm, the Japanese company has arranged accommodation and dining areas for them.

Also, MM Mega Market An Phu in An Phu Ward in Thu Duc City shut down today, while its 100 employees had to undergo Covid-19 tests due to Covid-19 cases. Besides, the competent forces disinfected the sprawling mall to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

A representative of MM Mega Market said that the supermarket’s essential goods would be transported to MM Mega Market Hiep Phu in District 12, MM Mega Market Binh Phu in District 6 and MM Mega Market Hung Phu in Thu Duc City.

In another development, the Field Hospital No. 1 in Nghe An Province has been put into operation to serve Covid-19 patients, said Nguyen Trung Thanh, office chief of the Nghe An Department of Health.

The field hospital, located in Hung Nguyen District, has a capacity of 100 beds, the local media reported.

In the current fourth wave of the coronavirus, Nghe An has reported 92 domestic Covid-19 infections.
