HCMC - Among the 95 fresh domestic Covid-19 cases that the Ministry of Health reported this morning, June 29, up to 58 infections were confirmed in HCMC, taking the city’s total case number in the current fourth wave of the coronavirus since April 27 to 3,494.

Besides, 18 other locally-infected cases were detected in Phu Yen Province, eight in Long An, four in Bac Giang, three in Ha Tinh, two in Nghe An and one each in Tra Vinh and Vinh Long.

Since April 27, Vietnam has reported 12,788 domestic Covid-19 cases in 48 provinces and cities, while 3,745 Covid-19 patients have made a full recovery.

In another development, the Can Tho City Department of Health on June 28 certified 16 hospitals and labs as eligible for Covid-19 testing to serve the fight against Covid-19 after the first Covid-19 case was detected in the city in the latest fourth wave.

Meanwhile, Binh Duong Province on the same day decided to pilot home quarantine for direct contacts of confirmed Covid-19 cases in nine districts, towns and cities, according to Nguyen Hong Chuong, director of the provincial Department of Health.

During the pilot, the province will allow each district or town to allow only one direct contact to self-isolate at home. After the pilot, if the effectiveness of self-isolation is achieved, the self-quarantine program will be expanded, the local media reported.

Binh Duong Province has 34 concentrated quarantine centers with some 10,000 beds and is quarantining over 3,000 direct contacts, according to the provincial government.

The self-isolation at home will help ease the overload at these quarantine centers if Covid-19 continues to rage, said Dr Huynh Minh Chin, director of the Bau Bang District Healthcare Center.
