Vietnam logs 90 new COVID-19 infections, one more death

NDO/VNA – Vietnam recorded additional 90 new COVID-19 cases in the past six hours to 12pm on June 21, including two imported cases in Tay Ninh province, according to the Health Ministry.


Among the 88 domestically-transmitted infections, 63 were detected in Ho Chi Minh City, 16 in Bac Giang, three in Bac Ninh, four in Nghe An and two in Ha Tinh.

Of the total new cases, 87 are found in quarantine sites or locked-down areas. The history of epidemiology of the three patients in Nghe An province is being investigated.

To date, Vietnam has documented 11,647 domestically-transmitted infections and 1,701 imported ones.
A total 5,229 patients have been given the all-clear so far.

Among the patients still under treatment, 381 have tested negative for the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 once, 135 twice, and 137 thrice.

The Treatment Subcommittee of the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control on June 21 afternoon confirmed one more death related to COVID-19, raising the national tally to 67.

The 75-year-old man tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 on June 14, with underlying diseases of type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and dyslipidemia.

Due to advanced age and severe underlying disease, he did not respond to treatment.

His cause of death is recorded as pneumonia caused by COVID-19, rapidly progressive respiratory failure, sepsis, multi-organ failure, septic shock in the patient with hypertension, type 2 diabetes, and dyslipidemia.
