HCMC - The HCMC Center for Disease Control this morning, June 3, reported 18 more suspected Covid-19 cases, including a medical worker of the Nam Sai Gon International Hospital in Binh Chanh District.

The remaining 17 cases were linked to the Revival Ekklesia Mission in Go Vap District and have been quarantined, the local media reported.

These cases have yet to be confirmed by the Ministry of Health.

Thus, the number of Covid-19 cases linked to the religious sect has risen to 265 as of this morning.

In addition, another Covid-19 cluster in District 3 has recorded seven patients after two new cases were confirmed yesterday afternoon.

Meanwhile, the governments of Haiphong City and Quang Ninh Province have written to the Ministry of Transport proposing suspending flights from HCMC to these two northern localities and vice versa due to the complicated developments in HCMC.

The flights should not be resumed until the pandemic in the city is brought under control.

Earlier, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) had asked airlines to reduce their domestic flights to the Tan Son Nhat International Airport in the city to a maximum of 63 per day, from June 1 to 14.

Of the total, Vietnam Airlines can operate 28 flights each day; Vietjet, 20; Pacific Airlines, three; Bamboo Airways, 11; and Vietravel Airlines, one.

The authority had also asked for serious compliance with anti-pandemic regulations at airports and on aircraft.

The Covid-19 resurgence has reduced the number of flights and air passengers. According to CAAV’s statistics, the number of air passengers reached 25.5 million in the first five months of the year, down 4.9% year-on-year.

Of the total, the number of international passengers plunged 98.3% to 116,000, while the number of domestic guests increased 27.7% to 25.4 million.

In the five-month period, there were 122,000 flights, down 5.9% over the year-ago period.
