HCMC – Forty new domestic Covid-19 cases, mainly in Bac Giang Province, were confirmed this afternoon, May 26, raising the country’s total number of Covid-19 cases from community transmission since April 27 to 2,912.

Bac Giang Province, the country’s biggest coronavirus hotspot, detected 27 cases, while Bac Ninh Province reported four and Hanoi City had six. One each was found in Dien Bien, Hai Duong and the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases.

Seven provinces, including Yen Bai, Quang Ngai, Dong Nai, Nghe An, Quang Ninh, Quang Nam and Quang Tri, have undergone 14 consecutive days without any community-transmitted Covid-19 case.

As of 12.00 p.m., Vietnam has reported 4,482 domestic Covid-19 cases and 1,489 imported ones, the local media reported.

Luong Ngoc Khue, head of the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment, said today that some 80% of Covid-19 patients showed few symptoms of the disease and their lungs had yet to be damaged. However, some 20% of the remainder might get worse.

As such, the treatment will focus on the 20% of Covid-19 patients, with 10% of them developing symptoms of cough, fever and shortness of breath, 5% getting ill and 5% in critical condition, Khue said.

Due to the spike in Covid-19 cases in Bac Giang Province, 13 doctors and nurses at Cho Ray Hospital in HCMC were sent to the province to help fight Covid-19 this morning.
