HCMC – The Ministry of Health this morning, May 8, reported 15 new locally-infected cases of Covid-19, taking the country’s total infections by community transmission during the latest coronavirus resurgence since April 27 to 176 cases in 19 provinces and cities nationwide.

The 15 fresh patients included one in Hanoi and 14 in the northern province of Bac Ninh, according to the Ministry of Health.

The case in Hanoi had close contact with a previously confirmed coronavirus patient, while the 14 cases in Bac Ninh were linked to a coronavirus outbreak in the province’s Thuan Thanh District.

Overall, during the latest coronavirus wave, the capital city of Hanoi currently took the lead in the number of locally-transmitted cases at 72, with 41 cases reported at the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases and 11 others recorded at the K Hospital. The northern provinces of Vinh Phuc and Bac Ninh came second at 26 cases each, followed by Ha Nam at 15, Danang at 10.

As of this morning, the country’s Covid-19 tally amounted to 3,152 cases, with 1,746 community-transmitted cases. Of the tally, 2,560 patients have fully recovered, while 35 others had died of the disease.

The ministry also said that over 54,000 people were vaccinated against Covid-19 on May 7, raising the total number of vaccinated people in the country to over 800,000.

Unfortunatebly, a medical worker in the Mekong Delta province of An Giang on May 7 died after getting vaccinated against the virus the previous day. This is the first death linked to Covid-19 vaccine in Vietnam.

Minister of Health, Nguyen Thanh Long, on May 7 said this resurgence remained more complicated as there are more outbreaks, more sources of transmission, more coronavirus variants than the previous waves, resulting in the high transmission rate. He asked all localities throughout the country to activate their anti-epidemic system to avoid being perplexed when any outbreak occurs.
